2012 McGladrey Classic Raises More Than $400,000 For Charity
ST. SIMONS ISLAND, GA – December 17, 2012 – The Davis Love Foundation is proud to announce that the third annual McGladrey Classic, an Official PGA TOUR Event, has raised more than $400,000 for charity. The Foundation serves as the host organization of the TOUR event held each fall at Sea Island Golf Club in the beautiful Golden Isles of Georgia. In just three years, The McGladrey Classic has generated nearly $900,000 for charities supported by the Davis Love Foundation.
The Davis Love Foundation was established in 2005 and supports both national and community-based programs that focus on the well being of children and their families. The Foundation’s mission is to help build a better future for vulnerable children and their families who are at risk of poor educational, economic, social and health outcomes.
The primary recipients of the funds are Special Olympics and the Boys and Girls Clubs of Southeast Georgia, but many other local and regional charities also benefit through programs run in conjunction with the event including Tix4Kids and Birdies Fore Love.
Through the Tix4Kids program, weekly and daily ticket buyers designated fifty percent of their ticket purchase to a participating charity of their choice. The program, sponsored by Bridgestone Golf, was launched in 2011 and has generated close to $60,000 for charity.
Birdies Fore Love, a new program launched in 2012, encouraged individuals to make a pledge and guess how many birdies would be made during the four competitive rounds of The McGladrey Classic. The new program raised more than $30,000 for the participating charities.
“Our Foundation is fortunate to be able to positively impact children and family charities through proceeds raised by The McGladrey Classic,” said Love III, who serves as the event’s host and represents the title sponsor (McGladrey) out on the PGA TOUR. Love joins TOUR players Zach Johnson and Chris DiMarco as Team McGladrey. “Thanks to our wonderful partnership with McGladrey, it is our privilege to continue the PGA TOUR’s tradition of charitable giving.”
