In 1911, Howard E. Coffin, vice president of Hudson Motor Company, purchased 20,000 acres in southeast Georgia and began developing a private retreat. In 1926, he renamed the area Sea Island. Photographers captured some early images of golf and “Avenue of the Oaks”, which leads to the entrance of the Sea Island Golf Club.
