Charities McGladrey Classic Charities
The McGladrey Classic has an annual economic impact of $10.6 million on Georgia’s Golden Isles according to a 2013 analysis by the Bureau of Business Research and Economic Development at Georgia Southern University. However, the real winners are the individuals served by Special Olympics, the Boys and Girls Clubs of Southeast Georgia and our Birdies Fore Love charities. The McGladrey Classic is proud to continue the tradition of giving back to the community – which is such an integral component of the PGA TOUR – and to support such worthy organizations. In its first four years, The McGladrey Classic has raised more than $1.8 million for charity.
Special Olympics is an international organization that changes lives by encouraging and empowering people with intellectual disabilities, promoting acceptance for all, and fostering communities of understanding and respect worldwide. Founded in 1968 by Eunice Kennedy Shriver, the Special Olympics movement has grown from a few hundred athletes to more than 3.1 million athletes in over 170 countries in all regions of the world, providing year-round sports training, athletic competition and other related programs. Special Olympics now takes place every day, changing the lives of people with intellectual disabilities in places like China and from regions like the Middle East to the community playgrounds and ball fields in every small neighborhood’s backyard. Special Olympics provides people with intellectual disabilities continuing opportunities to realize their potential, develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage and experience joy and friendship.
