The Top 9 – Activities to Experience
It’s that time again, another Top 9 Blog entry! In this installment, Scott McQuade, the new president and CEO of the Golden Isles Convention & Visitors Bureau, shares his “Top 9” activities to experience in the Golden Isles during tournament week for The McGladrey Classic.
After moving last January to the Golden Isles from Telluride, Colorado, I was eager to experience the highly touted island life here. While I must admit the adjustment from snow country to seaside living was challenging at first, I’ve had the pleasure of discovering many amazing and unique spots and delightful things to do in this unspoiled corner of Georgia’s coast.
Exploring Jekyll Island
Tournament Manager Courtney Stiles and daughter Palmer trek to Jekyll Island for their latest Golden Isles adventure.
Last summer my husband, daughter and I vacationed in the Golden Isles for the first time. It was during this family vacation that I met McGladrey Classic Tournament Director, Scott Reid. And now, here I sit writing this blog as a Davis Love Foundation staffer!
During our family’s vacation we decided to head over to Jekyll Island to the Georgia Sea Turtle Center. At the time we knew nothing about Jekyll Island but knew that Palmer (Age 1 ½ at the time) LOVED turtles – so there we went. Since our brief experience to Jekyll Island last summer we have not had the opportunity to return, until now! Last Saturday’s overcast skies allowed for a break in the heat and perfect timing for an adventure! In previous blogs I have written about our adventures by bike. I strongly considered throwing our bike and trailer in the car when we headed for Jekyll (as I have read about their 20 miles of bike paths!) but decided that this trip would be better by car. Just in case the overcast skies turned into rain drops.

The Scoop
On all accords we felt that the Inaugural McGladrey Classic was a huge success. We managed to pull off a first class PGA TOUR Event with only 9 months of planning and were able to raise $150,000 for Boys & Girls Clubs of Southeast Georgia and Special Olympics. It was great to hear the positive feedback from TOUR Players, TOUR Staff, Sponsors and our fans! We quickly switched gears and began to focus on how we could build on a successful first year.
