Read Davis’ Interview Following Wyndham Win
DOUG MILNE: I’d like to welcome the 2015 Wyndham Championship Winner, Davis Love, III. Davis, congratulations on your 21st career PGA TOUR win and 3rd Wyndham Championship title, jumped to 76 in the FedExCup Standings, through at least the Deutsche Bank Championship you’re set. I think one of the biggest story lines I picked up on was your putting this week. You were awfully happy with your putting and then turn it over to you for a few comments. DAVIS LOVE III: Yeah. Putting is the key on this Tour or any Tour and I putted very well this week and, you know, Doug just said, this gets me through all the way through the Deutsche Bank but I really had been playing not really for points or for positions, I’ve been trying to get my game back because I felt like, you know, through a couple of setbacks of surgeries I’ve been slowed down and I’ve been working hard trying to get my game back and, in fact, I got a group text from Larry Moody, our Tour chaplain — I could tell — I got a text but I could tell it was a copy and paste kind of group thing that he had been doing because it said, “I know this week means so much to you guys for your future next year.”
Zach Johnson Wins The Open Championship
Q. There were a lot of emotions after you made that putt on the 72nd hole. How did you get your mind back into thinking there might be a playoff and preparing for that? ZACH JOHNSON: Yeah, there was emotion there. Clearly because it was the 72nd hole and I had a good round going; that was part of it. I missed one on 18 last week, which was frustrating because I hit a good putt, and you know, the emotion was there briefly because I knew mentally I had to get my emotions in check because I had to get ready for obviously what happened. Clearly I guess I could have won it in 72 holes and I could have lost in 72 holes. I’m just trying to stay in the moment, and at that point get to the range and just warm up and see where things go. I didn’t have any expectations. I did all I can do, and obviously fortunately it went my way.
Dru Love Wins 2015 Georgia Amateur Championship
Georgia State Golf Association — Dru Love battled through five playoff holes to win the Georgia Amateur Championship at 8-under-par 272 (66-67-69-60) over two other players. The 94th playing of the annual state championship took place on the Seaside Course at Sea Island Golf Club, July 9-12. Love’s even-par 70 on Sunday was his toughest round over the four-day tournament, as well as the most uneventful. That is before the playoff. He recorded pars on the first nine holes for a 35. On the backside of the course, where he was 11-under-par over the first three days, he made par on 10 through 14. On 15, Love made the first of his two birdies on the day, adding the second on 16. On the 192-yard par-3 17th hole, he made bogey for his even-par 70 final round.
